I am Peter Madcat Ruth, a musician living in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. I play many instruments but I'm best known as a harmonica player. I was born near Chicago in 1949 and lived there for the first 20 years of my life. In the early 1960s, I started playing folk/blues on guitar and harmonica. By the late 60s I was immersed in the Chicago Blues and was studying harmonica with Big Walter Horton. In the early 70s I moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where I played in two of Ann Arbor's finest progressive rock bands: New Heavenly Blue and Sky King. By the mid-70s I was touring the world with jazz pianist Dave Brubeck. In the 80s, I went solo, infusing the folk/blues tradition with elements of rock and jazz. In 1990 I teamed up with Shari Kane to form the duo Madcat & Kane. In 1997, The Society for the Preservation and Advancement of the Harmonica (SPAH) named me Harmonica Player of the Year. Currently I perform with Chris Brubeck's Triple Play, The Madcat Midnight blues Journey, and Madcat & Kane. I also play electric blues in Brazil with Big Joe Manfra. And I play solo gigs and accompany many other fine musicians. I won a Grammy Award in 2005, which was quite a surprise!
